The 2007 Film School release Hideout is one of my all-time favorite LA (if by way of San Fran) records and I’m prepared to say that I like Fission a good deal better.
It’s hard to believe Radars to the Sky have never released a full-length record. Stalwarts of the Los Angeles indie rock scene ever since I’ve been paying attention, they finally put-out a proper release that gives indie rocker’s indie rock a good name.
The lineup for this bill is interesting. Seamus Simpson used to play in Radars to the Sky, and now fronts Smokers in Love. Death to Anders is fronted by Rob Danson and used to feature Pete DiBasio… now both play in Radars to the Sky. A bit incestual? Maybe, but that usually makes for a personal, intimate performance.
Crashing to Earth from a power pop planet far, far away is Alright Alright,a hook-fueled super sextet from Los Angeles who have dropped one of the surprise delights of 2010.
Mr. Kevin Bronson sent me this video a little while ago. I don’t know anything about Gasoline Silver except that they’re from Minneapolis. I’m only posting this because the song is called Indianapolis, which you well know, is the city of my origin. And I like bouncy garage stuff.
Like a bloody wife in an abusive marriage, I just can’t quit The =W=. Rationally, I know they will only beat me to a pulp if I go back. But that’s alright, I like the way it hurts.
Last Friday I had the great fortune of seeing one of my all-time favorite local bands play The Greek Theatre. I’ve followed the The Henry Clay People since early 2008 and their music, both live and on record, has soundtracked many of my best memories.
